What I learned on Friday

I learned some interesting thing about leadership. Most of them is from Social Intelligence and the Biology of Leadership by Daniel Goleman and Richard Boyatzis. 

What interest me the most is that there are mirror neurons which detect and reproduce someone else's emotions.  These  neurons are important in organization because leaders' emotions and actions prompt followers to mirror those feelings and deeds (p.3).

I made a small test. Imagine that you are an employee of a certain company and your boss asks you to correct the report you submitted. 

   

<I am not completely satisfied with your report. Please correct some points and submit it by the meeting on Friday.

...Which do you prefer?  Both man gives the same comment on your report, which is relatively negative, but the lower one sounds much more positive than the upper, doesn't it?

That is probably because our mirror neurons detected  and mimicked the man's positive emotions and we felt the same even the comment itself is not a positive one. 

 Fortunately, I can apply what I learned here in various situations. I found it essential to have and show positive emotions even when I make a negative feedback in order not to damage the relationship. The lesson is very helpful to be a good leader :)
